Under the EDUC 450 tab, you will find my standards portfolio for this course. The course is EDUC 450: Instruction II: Standards and Assessment. The portfolio is centered around the five standards for teacher candidate quality. The standards are as follows: Standard 1: Demonstrates mastery of and pedagogical expertise in content Standard 2: Establishes a safe, inclusive and respectable learning environment for a diverse population of students Standard 3: Plans and delivers effective instruction and creates an environment that facilitates learning for students Standard 4: Reflect on professional practice Standard 5: Demonstrates leadership For each standard, you will find one to two artifacts that demonstrates my achievement of the given standard, in addition to a rational that proceeds the artifact. There was a lecture, lab, and seminar for this course. In lecture, content included pedagogical approaches, management approaches, teaching strategies, assessment, and a wide variety of other material. In lab, each student was paired with a teacher at Poudre High School. I was paired with Craig Moyer in his class of Design Foundations. Between lecture and lab, I was able to learn about teaching strategies and then turn around and implement them in lessons when I had the opportunity to teach in Mr. Moyer's class. In seminar, we would reflect and share experiences from our lab time. This course was an incredible opportunity to get to work with students and learn not only the theory of education theories and practices, but to also experience their application.
